1. Overview of discipline
The major was established and started the admission of postgraduate in 2003. Now it gathers a lot of good teachers for basic courses and professional courses. There are 15 full-time teachers, including 11 teachers with PhD, 4 professors and 11 associate professors. In recent years, it undertook 5 projects of Natural Science Foundation of China, participated into 3 national-level research projects and 2 provincial/ ministry-level scientific research projects. Researches are adequately funded. More than 120 academic papers were published in domestic and foreign important journals. Some theoretical research results are leading at home and abroad. Over 60 papers were collected into SCI.
2. Educational objectives
Establish the correct political direction, observe laws and disciplines, have good moral characters, learning attitude and team spirit.
Further master fundamental theories, systematic special knowledge and necessary experiment skills, know well the development of this subject at home and abroad, boast the good capacity for analysis, representation and problem solving and become high-level professional talents in compliance with demands of social and economical development.
Master one foreign language to read data and lecture of this major and write the abstract of dissertation in foreign language and become good at listening and speaking.
3. Research areas
After rapid development in recent years, the major has developed following characteristic research areas:
Spectral analysis, including molecular spectral analysis and atomic spectral analysis, organic chromogenic reagent, fluorescent probe reagent and chemical luminescene.
Electroanalytical chemistry, including research on sensors and biosensors based upon the electroanalytical chemistry and electroluminescence.
Biological, food and environmental analysis. Utilize new methods to analyze and detect toxic and hazardous components in foods, environment and household chemicals and evaluate the influence of various components on human body or environment.
Separation technology, including high performance liquid analysis and research on integration of researchcallipary electroprobes, chromographic process with other detection methods.
Research on colloidal characterization and detection technology. Research the characterization technology of organized molecular assemblies (micelle, microemulsion, vesica and macromolecule aggregate), disclose the mechanism of action between surfactants and between surfactant and probe molecule, study the structure and microenvironment of organic molecular assemblies.
4. Program duration
The program lasts for 3years. Postgraduates will spend minimum 2 years at school. The maximum duration shall not exceed 3.5 years.
5. Credit requirements and curriculum
Postgraduates in this major shall get minimum 28 credits and minimum 25 course credits, of which there are minimum 10 credits for degree courses, 2 credits for academic reports and 1 credit for teaching practice.

6. Methods and requirements of education and assessment and requirements of academic dissertation
Refer to the Education Program of Jiangnan University for Full-time Postgraduate of Academic Degree for details.
The Program will be enforced for postgraduates admitted in 2014 and later. The power of interpretation shall be vested in the School of Chemistry and Material Engineering.
